“Be the Poem stakes out the ground where art and urgency meet. Part memoir and part poetry collection, this book explores how a poet’s work extends far beyond the page. Poet Gold’s poems rise within her story, reminding us that poetry is no mere ornament, but rather a tool for survival, solidarity, and change. With honesty and beauty, Poet Gold explores the role of the poet as both witness and guide, encouraging us to develop our own poetic voices—even in today’s decidedly unpoetic world.”

Thanks to James’ quick wit and creative thinking, the residents learn to live and work together as a family. The dangerous voyage is a success, but the adventure takes a whole new twist once they land on the Empire State Building.
