Born in Brazil and living in New York, Liliana Washburn’s paintings are intuitive and surrealistic evoking in the viewer a sense of mystery and fantasy. Through a collection of works she calls: “Human Nature” she invites the viewer to a journey into the subconscious mind. For five years she owned and operated The Pawling Printery a print shop in the Village of Pawling in New York. That experience gave her the knowledge of commercial print and graphic design leading her to acquire a Bachelor of Science in Visual Arts. In 2007, she received a scholarship from Vassar Collage: Exploring Vassar Transfer. In 2012, she graduated from SUNY New Paltz being awarded the “Summa Cum Laude” Latin Honors. In 2016, she attended her first residency in Poland. She is the holder of 2016 Pawling Public Radio Award Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. and it is part of several private collections, Her early artistic expression consisted of: building kites she flew in kite competitions, create cake design decorations and cloth flower arrangements. She also worked as a trade fair coordinator for Reliance America in Brazil. There, she received a BA in Licentiate in Letters and a BS in Computer Science. She has visited several countries including: Egypt, Spain, Austria, and France among others. She likes to be called “Lili” her nickname since childhood. She is a resident of Holmes, New York where she lives near a lake with her husband of fifteen years.
Artist Statement
My desire is to bring beauty and happiness into people’s life.
Art is therapeutic. It has the power of healing the most profound wounds and promoting insight. Through colorful water-media, I express my deepest emotions.
I paint because it makes me feel happy. It is my hope that when you look at my work, we can share that moment of happiness.
